What To Expect

The practice of massage therapy involves the assessment & treatment of soft tissue and joints of the body by means of:
  • range of motion testing
  • muscle testing
  • soft tissue manipulating
  • (which involves massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, etc.)
  • hydrotherapy
  • remedial exercise program
  • client self-help programs
A treatment plan based on the client's individual assessment & health history will be proposed by the therapist prior to treatment. Client information, both written and verbal, is completely confidential and will be safeguarded by the therapist unless the client's consent to release the records is obtained.

The therapist must obtain the client's consent to work on any part of the body, regardless of whether the client is fully clothed or fully or partially draped (any part of the body that is not being treated must be properly covered). The client has the right to withdraw their consent at ant time. The therapist will assure the privacy and respect of the client at all times. The fee structure and method of payment will be agreed upon prior to the beginning of treatment.

Are There Different Types of Massage?

Yes, there are 3 major types of massage: Therapeutic, Relaxation and Sports Massage. The difference between them would be in the speed & depth that the various techniques are applied. Besides the basic Swedish techniques, the therapist has other modalities that can be combined to maximize the results during one session.

Verifying Credentials Of An RMT

All Registered Massage Therapists (RMT's) have completed at least 2200 hours of studies, passed provincial exams set by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, and been issued both a photo ID card and Certification of Registration. You have the right to ask to see either of these pieces of identification in order to be assured that your therapist is registered.
